The Trailboss is a mid-tech design from Andre De Villiers that is, in our mind, the most usable model yet from Andre. It's built on the base of the Tac Butcher Gen 3 model with some added and upgraded features. It's still smooth, fast, sharp, and stout - really everything one looks for in a tactical blade - but this has a full flat ground drop point blade from better slicing, skinning, and all-around utility performance. There is a thumb disk, which you can use to open the blade instead of the flipper, but the action is so darn good, we definitely recommend the flipper mechanism. The 3.875" blade of this Trailboss is made from gorgeous VG10 Damascus steel with a properly acid-etched finish.

The Trailboss is the first Andre De Villiers folder to utilize his internal lockbar overtravel stop which is built into the replaceable steel insert. The pivot point is what sets this knife apart from all others. It has an inset Torx screw that fits inside the pivot, allowing you to tighten down the pivot while adjusting the centering or overall smoothness of the action. That action is very smooth to say the least, using a caged bearing system. Jimping on the flipper tang is sharp and functional; really nothing was overlooked in this awesome design. Andre put in a large cutout relief to make closing the knife easier. The other vastly improved feature in our opinion is that the pocket clip is now made from milled titanium instead of the spring clip variety, providing you with a much more confident and secure carry in the pocket. The Butcher may not have been your typical-looking knife but its brother, the Trailboss, is much more aesthetically pleasing. Once you get it in your hand and you'll definitely warm up to the design thanks to all the great features it has and the fact that the action is on par with even the best flipping designs.
